New Peter Thomas Roth Potent-C Collection Review!

Ya girl finally got her paws on the new Peter Thomas Roth Potent-C Collection of vitamin C products! Just in time too, since I just ran out of the vitamin c serum I'd been using before. The collection includes the Potent-C™ Power Serum, the Potent-C™ Targeted Spot Brightener, and the Potent-C™ Power Eye Cream and baby I LOVE IT.

Peter Thomas Roth Potent-C Collection Vitamin C serum

Why the Vitamin C craze? We all know how helpful vitamin C is for our immune systems when we consume it, but it's also really helpful for fighting signs of aging and keeping your skin soft and smooth.

It helps promote collagen production, helps protect from the sun (with sunscreen use of course,) evens out skin tones and under eye circles, speeds up healing, improves hydration and moisture, just to name a few benefits.

I've only been using the products for a few days, but I can already feel that my skin is softer, and overall it's helped with discoloration and evening my skin tone. I'm going to use the eye cream nightly and see if it can do anything for these ol' eye bags of mine.

The products have a slight, clean sort of smell, but nothing heavy or flowery. A little goes a long way, so you really don't have to use much product. They are a higher end brand, which naturally comes with a higher price tag, so if you're on a budget, you may want to plan and save up a little for the splurge. I'd probably go with the serum if you're going to just choose one product.

Skin Care Routine to Fight Fine Lines and Wrinkles with MD Complete

We all deal with different skin problems, and as we age, our skin needs change too! My skin is on the dryer side, and lately I’ve been noticing fine lines around my mouth and eyes. I’m a lot older than I look, and I plan on keeping it that way!

MDCompleteSkin Wrinkle and Vitamin C Retinol

MD Complete sent me a few products to try and I’ve been using the Wrinkle & Radiance Remedy, Eye Wrinkle Corrector, and Retinol Vitamin C Concentrate for the past couple weeks and have noticed an overall more firm and bright tone to my skin.

MD Complete Skincare Routine Wrinkle and Retinol Vitamin C

They sent this handy schedule along with the product so I know when to use each product and how to ease my skin into my new routine. The products are highly concentrated, so putting it all on my skin every day is probably too much.

It will take a couple months to see a more dramatic difference, but I definitely plan on doing a before and after comparison for you all! If you want to check these products out, you can get them here at the MD Complete Skin website!

1 Minute Videos: Herbivore Botanicals Exfoliating Floral Pink Clay Mask

I am a huge fan of clay masks and use them about once a week before my weekly hair wash session. I am also a huge fan of pink things, so when I saw this Herbivore Botanicals Pink Clay Exfoliating Floral Mask at Anthropologie I had to pick it up.

It comes in a powder form and you mix it yourself, so that seemed like a fun thing to do on a Friday night. Check out my 1 Minute Video below!

Couple of things, I don't know if I made my mix too thick or this is just the formula, it was a little more difficult to wash off my face than an average clay mask, so I had to keep a wet face towel on it for a little longer to actually get it off. I'll have to try another time with a thinner consistency to see if that helps. I was also hoping that this mask would be actually pink, but it's more of a pinky brown color, like, I duno, mud.

silicone clay mask brush.jpg

I used a silicone mask brush to apply the mask, and I love these because it doesn't waste as much product as a normal hair brush. I got mine in a two pack from amazon here for like $5, and gave one to my sister in law.

Herbivore Botanical Pink Clay Exfoliating Floral Face Mask

I got this mask from Anthropologie for $22 (THEY HAVE BEAUTY STUFF?) but the mask is also available on amazon for $26 right now, scoop it up if that's something you're into!

Here's the info about the Pink Clay Mask from Amazon.

Rosehip Seed Oil
Comes from the fruit of the wild rose plant, naturally rich in essential fatty acids Omega 3, 6 and 9. Regenerates skin cells and repairs damaged tissue, reduces scarring, repairs damaged skin cells, minimizes wrinkles and helps maintain healthy collagen.

Copy of Glam Glow Supermud Clearing Treatment aka The Magical Elixir of Youth

Listen. I am as susceptible to hype as the next average consumer, and my goal here is to always give honest reviews and opinions on everything I test and use.

Ok, that said, I got a sample size of the Glam aglow Supermud Clearing Treatment from Sephora with my VIB points and I'm pretty sure I am 5 years younger now. That's how it works, right?  I already tell people I'm 16, and now I can really look it.

IMG_6652.JPG

So I have tried my share of mud masks and they're great at for pulling impurities out of your face and give you soft skin, but this stuff is next level. It tingles a little when you put it on, which kind of makes it feel like it's working hard at whatever it's doing. Hang out and let it dry for 15-20 minutes or whenever it's dry to the touch and then remove it with a warm washcloth.

I watched a funny YouTube video while it dried which was difficult because I was trying not to laugh bc it was cracking the mud, so I turned it off and just sat and waited.

IMG_6653.JPG

I took it off and felt my face for like 30 minutes because I couldn't believe how soft my face was. I don't exactly go around feeling babies butts, but this is exactly how I imagine they would feel. I'm not even exaggerating I was super impressed with how soft my skin was. I don't have a drop of makeup on in this picture, and my face was so bright and clear.

IMG_6651.JPG

This mask is NOT cheap. If you can sell some part of your soul for this I highly recommend it though. Or if you just have 100 Sephora points you can get it too. Which is probably easier and better for you in the long run.

Put this stuff on your holiday wish lists or buy it with your independent woman money, just GET THIS.

It's $69 (ayeeeee) for 1.7 oz at Sephora, and I'm not sure but you can ask if they accept first born children as well.

Have you tried this? What are you favorite mud masks? Got any cheap dupes I need to know about? LET ME KNOW!

Holy Grail Must Haves: Current Favorite Products I Can't Live Without

Back in ye olden times or whatever, knights ran around and killed a bunch of people looking for some fabled cup Jesus drank out of. I bet if they had access to some of these beauty products they'd have been like, yeah I'm good, the cup prob doesn't even exist lol.

Anyway, these are MY Holy Grail items, the makeup products I simply can't live without. I go through multiples of these in a year, and they are the products I buy over and over again.

Pixi Glow Tonic

Good makeup starts with good skin, and this Pixi Glow Tonic does wonders for mine. It contains 5% Glycolic Acid, which sounds scary, but is just a fancy word for a chemical exfoliant that helps to shed your dead stuff on your face. I use this every night on a cotton pad and you can get it from Target or from the Pixi website directly. They range from $6-$29 depending on the size you get it in.

Stila Eyeliner.png

I cry a lot so I need a truly waterproof eyeliner. It's just the truth, it's ok, I'm ok with being a crybaby. This Stila Stay All Day® Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner really does stay all day and even all night, tears and rain be damned. It also comes in all these fun colors. It's a bit pricier than the average eyeliner for $22 but this is one product where the price is worth it. You can get it from Sephora and Ulta stores or the Stila website.

 Look at all these colors!

I have very straight, thin, Asian eyelashes that are stubborn for most highly praised mascaras. I need a waterproof mascara that will simultaneously withstand all my crying and hold a curl. I read about this weird mascara awhile ago in some Buzzfeed listicle of Amazon beauty buys and so I took a chance and bought it. It. Is. Amazing. I have no idea what this stuff is made of or how it works so well, but I love it. It's $25 on Amazon right now, but the price fluctuates and you can also find it for cheaper in Japanese or Korean cosmetic stores if there are any around you.

Here's a very close weird picture where you can see one eye with the mascara and one naked lash eye.

Guys. This NYX eyebrow pencil is my jam. I have black hair, and black eyebrows look too scary and brown eyebrows look too fake. Enter the gray eyebrow. I honestly don't know why more brands don't make a gray, but at $4.75 a pencil, I don't really think I need anything else. The pencil lasts surprisingly long and can create a thin or fat line depending on the look you're going for. I use this paired with the NYX eyebrow powder for a finished, natural look. They have a bunch of other colors for your brows, including some pretty redish shades for red-heads. You can buy this at Ulta, Target, most drugstores, NYX stores and their website, or online at Amazon. Here's a link to the product on the NYX website

What Holy Grail list would be complete without the Beauty Blender? It's like, just a sponge, right? WRONG. It's so much more than a sponge. Have you ever tried putting makeup on your face with a regular sponge? Don't do it, that's weird. But seriously, I don't know why or how this sponge is so great for putting on face makeup like foundation, concealer, or contour products but it just is. It's a bit expensive for a little sponge at $20 a pop, but if you clean it regularly and take good care not to let it get moldy or gross it will last a really long time. You can get these at pretty much every major makeup store or on Amazon or the Beauty Blender website

So there you have it! These are a few of my favorite products I regularly use up and will re-buy over and over. My list is ever changing though, so let me know what YOUR Holy Grail products are in the comments!

Disclaimer: I have not been paid or compensated in any way by these companies for this post, (not that I wouldn't- I just don't have that kind of life yet) and these are products that I personally like and that work for me. They might not work for you, and hey that's ok we're all different people!

Nightly Skin Care Routine: Wash Your Face and Moisturize Baby

The most common beauty question I get is on Slumber Party Beauty is about my skincare routine. I am considerably older than I look, and though much of it is due to my fly Mom's genetic code, a lot of it also has to do with my skin care regimen and lifestyle.

It's not fun. I don't drink, don't smoke cigarettes, and I stay out of the sun and wear sunscreen every single day. I'm also vegan, though that's a more recent thing, so it probably hasn't had much effect on my skin yet.

I'm not going to lie to you. It's a lot. I spend about 20 minutes each night removing my makeup and slapping creams all over my face. I, personally, love it. I view it as taking time for self care and investing in MYSELF.

Anyway, you probably want to get to the good stuff. So here we go.

My Nightly Skin Care Routine

Part 1: Wash Your Damn Face

Guys, it should go without saying, but a shocking amount of people I've talked to don't wash all their makeup off every night. I get it. You're tired, maybe you're drunk, whatever, I'm not judging your lifestyle but I AM going to judge your dirty faces. You know what happens when your pores get clogged? They get mad and throw little pimple tantrums. WASH YO FACE!

1. Mascara Remover
I wear waterproof mascara, so I use a mascara remover to take it off. This stuff is from Japan, so it's called Heroine Make, which doesn't make any sense, because Japan. You put it on, let it sit for a couple minutes while you feed your cats their midnight snack, and then gently wipe it off with a tissue. No more scrubbing! It takes forever to ship but it's worth it and it's only $12 [link

2. Micellar Cleansing Water
Next, I take a cotton round and gently wipe the rest of my makeup off with some Micellar Water. I don't really understand what this stuff is made of that it can be so cheap yet so effective, but this really does the trick to get even my most stubborn waterproof eyeliner off. You can get this at any drug store or on [Amazon] for $6.59.

3. Oil Cleanse
I am a huge fan of Korean skin care products, and this Banila Clean it Zero is no exception. It has a waxy gooey kind of consistency and you just take a little dime size scoop of it and massage it into your face, then rinse it off with water. [link] $16.90

4. Foaming Cleanser
Then I use a foaming cleanser to get the rest of the residue from the oil cleanse off and to remove any remaining dirt and makeup. [link] $17.20

Part 2: Tone and Moisturize Baby

So after you've cleaned your face, you're not done. You gotta lock in all that moisture and do some preventative and restorative care for your little wrinkles and uneven complexion baby.

5. Toner
All toners are not created equal. Some toners restore the pH balance to your face, some exfoliate and prep your skin for moisturizer. I use Pixi's Glow Tonic, which contains 5% Glycolic Acid. It sounds crazy to put acid on your face, but that's just a fancy word for an exfoliant. I can't tell you which kind of toner will work best for you, but this one works wonders for my skin. They sell Pixi at Target or you can get larger sizes on their website [here] from $6-$29.

6. Vitamin C Serum
Ooh baby I love this stuff. What does Vitamin C do? Isn't that the shit that's in oranges? Well, apparently it does a lot. “Vitamin C performs a variety of functions within the skin, including stimulating new collagen, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, protecting the skin from environmental pollutants with its antioxidant properties, helping reduce visible discolorations on the skin and providing enhanced protection against UV exposure,” - Jennifer Linder, M.D., founder of Linder Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center. [source] I opted for a serum that uses Asorbic Acid as the active Vitamin C ingredient and I got it on [Amazon] for $14.95.

7. Eye Cream
Guys, I don't know if this stuff works, I'm gonna be honest. It's one of those things I've done forever, but had no control comparison, so I don't know how much worse the bags under my eyes would be if I'd never used eye cream. What I do know is that the skin under and around your eyes is very sensitive and more prone to wrinkles and discoloration due to sun damage, tugging and rubbing, and allergies. So I'm going to keep using it and hoping that it's doing something. I also don't remember this stuff being so expensive when I bought it, so I'll probably get a cheaper one when I run out. $34 from Sephora.

8. Night Cream
I live in Los Angeles, which is a literal desert with very dry air. I invest in some heavy duty Shiseido night cream which locks all the moisture in and it also feels and smells pretty fancy too. It's the most expensive item I buy regularly, but I have tried a lot of other moisturizers and they simply don't do the trick. My face is bougie. You can get it from Sephora for $60 or at any Shiseido retailer or department store that carries it. Make sure to get your neck too!

Part 3: Optional Stuff

9. Spot Treat
I don't have blemishes that often, but when I do, this little pink drying lotion does the trick. I don't understand what it is, but you just dip a q-tip into the pink stuff and put it on your blemish and by the next morning it's GONE. I mean it probably would take longer to work on cystic acne or really stubborn spots, but for the little annoyance here or there this shit is awesome. Hot Tip- let the pink stuff settle to the bottom so that it's thick before you use it. I got this at Nordstrom Rack ya'll, but they also sell it all over the place so be on the look out for it or get it on [Amazon] for $17.

10. Clay Mask
About once or twice a week I'll use this exfoliating red clay mask. It's red/brown so it looks like I'm in blackface when I wear it, so maybe just wear it by yourself and not outside to let your dog out. I got it for shooting some promotional videos for Algenist, and it's kind of expensive, but there are all sorts of clay masks that will probably do the trick. You can get it at Sephora for $55.

11. Moisturizing Face Mask
Less frequently, I'll put on one of these moisturizing face masks. I stocked up on them when I went to Korea and Japan because I meant to give them to my friends but I kept them all for myself. You can get these kind of masks at Sephora or on Amazon or any Korean grocery store. Look, here's a 16 pack for $9.75.

PHEW.

That is my NIGHTLY skin care regimen. It's a lot. I know. I do it because I have the time and means to do it, and also because I LOVE it. I realize, though, that this is unrealistic for most people who live busy lives. Also, this is what works for my skin, it may not work for yours! I have found this routine through trying out a ton of different products, and I'm sure if you ask me in a year it will be different.

At the very least, I recommend that you wash your face every night and moisturize. WASH YOUR FACE. Seriously. Wash your face.

Do you have any holy grail skin care products you swear by? Let me know in the comments, I want ALL the secrets.
