New Peter Thomas Roth Potent-C Collection Review!

Ya girl finally got her paws on the new Peter Thomas Roth Potent-C Collection of vitamin C products! Just in time too, since I just ran out of the vitamin c serum I'd been using before. The collection includes the Potent-C™ Power Serum, the Potent-C™ Targeted Spot Brightener, and the Potent-C™ Power Eye Cream and baby I LOVE IT.

Peter Thomas Roth Potent-C Collection Vitamin C serum

Why the Vitamin C craze? We all know how helpful vitamin C is for our immune systems when we consume it, but it's also really helpful for fighting signs of aging and keeping your skin soft and smooth.

It helps promote collagen production, helps protect from the sun (with sunscreen use of course,) evens out skin tones and under eye circles, speeds up healing, improves hydration and moisture, just to name a few benefits.

I've only been using the products for a few days, but I can already feel that my skin is softer, and overall it's helped with discoloration and evening my skin tone. I'm going to use the eye cream nightly and see if it can do anything for these ol' eye bags of mine.

The products have a slight, clean sort of smell, but nothing heavy or flowery. A little goes a long way, so you really don't have to use much product. They are a higher end brand, which naturally comes with a higher price tag, so if you're on a budget, you may want to plan and save up a little for the splurge. I'd probably go with the serum if you're going to just choose one product.

The Pill Club

Recently, the doctor I'd been seeing in Los Angeles closed their doors abruptly, so I panicked a little bit, knowing I'd have to scramble to find ANOTHER new doctor to schedule a pap with so they could quickly write me a prescription so my use of birth control wouldn't be interrupted.

Birth control can be maddeningly difficult to access, even for someone with health insurance. I have been on the pill as a form of birth control for over a decade and have moved to different states and cities throughout the years, had to find new doctors to write me prescriptions, and battled with insurance companies over how to access my birth control.

The Pill Club Birth Control

Now, if you live in California, you may have heard that pharmacists are now legally allowed to dispense birth control pills to you without a doctor's prescription, which, for someone like me who has no major health issues and has been monogamous for the last 100 years, is a godsend. I searched around town to see which pharmacies had been trained in the new law, and a friend recommended The Pill Club.

I've never had such an easy time getting my birth control. I just had just fill out a simple medical questionnaire and provide some details about myself, texted a little bit with a specialist to confirm my details and health insurance info, and boom, a cute little care package with my birth control, Plan B, essential oils, and some chocolate arrived at my door a week later.

I can't tell you how much stress this has taken off my back, and how relieved I was that I didn't have to interrupt my birth control schedule to get a new prescription. This obviously doesn't replace good medical care by your OBGYN or General Practitioner doctor, but if you're on the pill and know how your body reacts to it, The Pill Club was a Godsend for me.

I'm not being paid to write this or anything either, I genuinely just found this service so helpful and easy.  If you dread having to deal with the doctors and your insurance company, I highly recommend you check this service out!

Find out more about The Pill Club here on their website, and let me know if you try it how you like it!

Easy Green Springtime Look with NYX Love You So Mochi Electric Pastels Palette

Spring is almost here! Stepping into the season with my new NYX Love You So Mochi Electric Pastels palette which I am OBSESSED with. The eyeshadows are super soft and buttery, and I found they went on best when applied with my fingers as they're pretty shimmery. A couple of the more gold colors would be great doubled as highlighters too.

I am usually more of a browns and pinks kind of girl, so green is a bit outside of my norm, but since I've started this blog I've been trying to add more variety into my makeup routine. What do you think about this, are these colors you'd rock?

Skin Care Routine to Fight Fine Lines and Wrinkles with MD Complete

We all deal with different skin problems, and as we age, our skin needs change too! My skin is on the dryer side, and lately I’ve been noticing fine lines around my mouth and eyes. I’m a lot older than I look, and I plan on keeping it that way!

MDCompleteSkin Wrinkle and Vitamin C Retinol

MD Complete sent me a few products to try and I’ve been using the Wrinkle & Radiance Remedy, Eye Wrinkle Corrector, and Retinol Vitamin C Concentrate for the past couple weeks and have noticed an overall more firm and bright tone to my skin.

MD Complete Skincare Routine Wrinkle and Retinol Vitamin C

They sent this handy schedule along with the product so I know when to use each product and how to ease my skin into my new routine. The products are highly concentrated, so putting it all on my skin every day is probably too much.

It will take a couple months to see a more dramatic difference, but I definitely plan on doing a before and after comparison for you all! If you want to check these products out, you can get them here at the MD Complete Skin website!

Carbon Coco Activated Charcoal Toothpaste Review and Video

My journey with white teeth has been fraught with many speedbumps. When I was young I had my teeth professionally whitened after getting my braces off, and I'm convinced it made my enamel weak and my teeth sensitive ever since. I drink a lot of coffee, so I've pretty much undone any good the professional whitening did, and crest white strips are too painful for me to use due to my sad weak enamel.

Enter activated charcoal. I've heard a lot about charcoal teeth whitening products but hadn't had a chance to check it out, when I got a message from Carbon Coco asking if I'd like to try their product out. Check out my review of it below!

Overall, loved the product. It didn't taste weird, was fun to scare my man with, and didn't hurt my weak little teeth at all. All their products are also vegan and cruelty free, which I can't say about most of the big toothpaste companies. I'll have to continue to use this over time to determine if it whitens my teeth significantly, but so far so good!

You can check out Carbon Coco here on their website. As of right now it looks like they're still running a Cyber Monday promotion, so get on that if you want to try this stuff out.

Have you tried any charcoal teeth whitening products? Let me know in the comments what some of your faves are!

**Note: This product was sent to me in exchange for a review, but I have not received any monetary compensation for saying nice things about the company nor was I asked to give a favorable review. I'd never lie to you guys on this blog!**

Colourpop I Think I Love You Pressed Powder Eyeshadow Palette Review and Swatches

Colourpop is killin' it with their eyeshadow palette game lately. The citrus colored palette Yes Please, the pretty pink She Palette, and one of their latest palettes, the I Think I Love You Pressed Powder Eyeshadow Palette. I reviewed and swatched the Yes Please Eyeshadow Palette in another post you can check out here if you want to.

Colourpop I Think I Love You Swatches.jpg

This eyeshadow palette is made up of 12 shades of neutral and warm toned glitter and matte shades. I LOVE the glitter shades. They're super pigmented, and especially with a glitter primer they really pop. The matte shades, I gotta be honest, not too impressed by. There is SO MUCH FALL OUT.

Colourpop I Think I Love You fallout.JPG

The lighting on this photo is super weird, but you can see the intense fall out happening under my eye from using the black shade, "Let's Do It."

There's no great way to prevent the fall out from happening, but you can skip the under eye concealer part of your makeup routine until after you finish your eyeshadow to prevent having to re-do it.

Fall out aside, I did like the looks I was able to create with the shades. I feel like it was missing one or two shades. I would have liked a shade between Belair and My Type, or a darker shade between My Type and "Let's Do It." The highlight shades are a high point and really pop in contrast to the darker shades.

i-think-i-love-you_a_grande.jpg

I also found the shades very similar to Urban Decay's Naked Heat Eyeshadow Palette, which was probably not a coincidence.

Urban Decay Naked Heat Eyeshadow Palette Slumber Party Beauty.jpg

Overall, I found the ITILY palette decent, but it is my least favorite of Colourpop's eyeshadow palettes so far. The Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette is $54, and the Colourpop I Think I Love You palette is only $16, which makes it a great alternative to the UD one if you're on a budget. If you already have one of them, I don't think you need the other.

You can buy the I Think I Love You palette on the Colourpop site here, make sure to sign up for a coupon if you're a first time buyer!

Do you have this palette? What do you think about it? If you have some tricks for avoiding eyeshadow from getting all over your face with looser formulas let me know in the comments! Don't forget to follow Slumber Party Beauty on Instagram to find out first about giveaways and updates!

Copy of Glam Glow Supermud Clearing Treatment aka The Magical Elixir of Youth

Listen. I am as susceptible to hype as the next average consumer, and my goal here is to always give honest reviews and opinions on everything I test and use.

Ok, that said, I got a sample size of the Glam aglow Supermud Clearing Treatment from Sephora with my VIB points and I'm pretty sure I am 5 years younger now. That's how it works, right?  I already tell people I'm 16, and now I can really look it.

IMG_6652.JPG

So I have tried my share of mud masks and they're great at for pulling impurities out of your face and give you soft skin, but this stuff is next level. It tingles a little when you put it on, which kind of makes it feel like it's working hard at whatever it's doing. Hang out and let it dry for 15-20 minutes or whenever it's dry to the touch and then remove it with a warm washcloth.

I watched a funny YouTube video while it dried which was difficult because I was trying not to laugh bc it was cracking the mud, so I turned it off and just sat and waited.

IMG_6653.JPG

I took it off and felt my face for like 30 minutes because I couldn't believe how soft my face was. I don't exactly go around feeling babies butts, but this is exactly how I imagine they would feel. I'm not even exaggerating I was super impressed with how soft my skin was. I don't have a drop of makeup on in this picture, and my face was so bright and clear.

IMG_6651.JPG

This mask is NOT cheap. If you can sell some part of your soul for this I highly recommend it though. Or if you just have 100 Sephora points you can get it too. Which is probably easier and better for you in the long run.

Put this stuff on your holiday wish lists or buy it with your independent woman money, just GET THIS.

It's $69 (ayeeeee) for 1.7 oz at Sephora, and I'm not sure but you can ask if they accept first born children as well.

Have you tried this? What are you favorite mud masks? Got any cheap dupes I need to know about? LET ME KNOW!

Fenty Beauty Soft Matte Filt'r Foundation and Instant Retouch Primer Makeup Review

FENTY BEAUTY. You guys. If you haven't heard about Rihanna's new cosmetic line of incredibly inclusive shades than you have been hiding under a rock.

I'll break it down for you if you haven't heard. Rihanna, the unburnt, the flawless, the snatcher of edges, mother of umbrellas, the first of her name, has a beauty line called Fenty Beauty that has 40 shades of foundation designed particularly with dark skinned beauties in mind that probably can't find their shade in other brands.

4adedbe16f59699fa29a413070873e46.jpg

This is kind of a big deal. If you're white or fair skinned, you might not know this, but most cosmetic brands do NOT carry shades dark enough for many black people. If they do, it's likely that they don't have them in stock at stores and you have to go online to buy them. Can you imagine how that must feel?

There are other brands that carry a lot of different shades like CoverFX and Mac, but the difference here is that this line is marketed specifically to women who may have trouble finding their color, whereas other brands seem to add more colors as an afterthought.

c6e9cfb08a3cecd7f3af7cdd4c13c967.jpg

So Queen Rihanna, being the benevolent leader that she is, took it upon herself to create this amazing line of shades. LOOK AT THEM.

Ok, so clearly I'm obsessed with Rihanna, so this review is a little biased in that I believe she is a perfect baby angel sent from above, but I did try the foundation out for myself so I could let you know what's up.

IMG_6573 copy.jpg

I'm not normally a matte foundation gyal as I usually prefer dewey looks and bb creams, but I tried Fenty for ya. I didn't want to buy a full bottle because I wasn't sure I'd like it, so I got a sample with a routine Sephora purchase. I looked at the website to see what my shade was, and I guessed I'd be shade 180, but the sample that came was shade 150 and actually worked really well for me. If you are interested in buying this, I'd suggest testing swatches in person at your nearest Sephora if you can to make sure you find a true match.

I used the Fenty Beauty Instant Retouch Primer that came with the sample pack before putting on the foundation. Then I put on the Soft Matte Filt'r Foundation with a beauty blender and I actually really like the formula. It's not too thick, and it's buildable so you can chose your level of coverage and just build onto spots that need a little more coverage.

IMG_6562.JPG

I wore it all day and night and even went dancing and it stayed put. I didn't do any retouches during the day and was pretty impressed with its staying power. My face looked flawless, and I think this is a great foundation for days you know you'll be in a lot of photos.

As it's a matte formula, I would recommend wearing moisturizer before you put foundation on and making sure to moisturize after, but you should be doing that always anyway.

Overall, I loved it. I'd love to hear more from any babes with darker skin to see if you felt like it was easy to find a color match.

A full size primer is $32 and the full size foundation is $34, which is a pretty affordable price for a high quality foundation.

If you are also hesitant to pull the trigger and want to try the formula before you buy it, you can use the coupon code FENTYFACE with any online Sephora purchase to get the same little sample pack I did.

Here's a link to Fenty Beauty stuff on Sephora so you can check out what other products they have too, my next item I want to check out is the Kilowatt Freestyle Highlighter that everyone has been going on about.

Have you tried Fenty Beauty yet? Do you normally have trouble finding your shade in most brands? Let me know what's up in the comments below. <3 <3 #rihannaforever

Holy Grail Must Haves: Current Favorite Products I Can't Live Without

Back in ye olden times or whatever, knights ran around and killed a bunch of people looking for some fabled cup Jesus drank out of. I bet if they had access to some of these beauty products they'd have been like, yeah I'm good, the cup prob doesn't even exist lol.

Anyway, these are MY Holy Grail items, the makeup products I simply can't live without. I go through multiples of these in a year, and they are the products I buy over and over again.

Pixi Glow Tonic

Good makeup starts with good skin, and this Pixi Glow Tonic does wonders for mine. It contains 5% Glycolic Acid, which sounds scary, but is just a fancy word for a chemical exfoliant that helps to shed your dead stuff on your face. I use this every night on a cotton pad and you can get it from Target or from the Pixi website directly. They range from $6-$29 depending on the size you get it in.

Stila Eyeliner.png

I cry a lot so I need a truly waterproof eyeliner. It's just the truth, it's ok, I'm ok with being a crybaby. This Stila Stay All Day® Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner really does stay all day and even all night, tears and rain be damned. It also comes in all these fun colors. It's a bit pricier than the average eyeliner for $22 but this is one product where the price is worth it. You can get it from Sephora and Ulta stores or the Stila website.

 Look at all these colors!

I have very straight, thin, Asian eyelashes that are stubborn for most highly praised mascaras. I need a waterproof mascara that will simultaneously withstand all my crying and hold a curl. I read about this weird mascara awhile ago in some Buzzfeed listicle of Amazon beauty buys and so I took a chance and bought it. It. Is. Amazing. I have no idea what this stuff is made of or how it works so well, but I love it. It's $25 on Amazon right now, but the price fluctuates and you can also find it for cheaper in Japanese or Korean cosmetic stores if there are any around you.

Here's a very close weird picture where you can see one eye with the mascara and one naked lash eye.

Guys. This NYX eyebrow pencil is my jam. I have black hair, and black eyebrows look too scary and brown eyebrows look too fake. Enter the gray eyebrow. I honestly don't know why more brands don't make a gray, but at $4.75 a pencil, I don't really think I need anything else. The pencil lasts surprisingly long and can create a thin or fat line depending on the look you're going for. I use this paired with the NYX eyebrow powder for a finished, natural look. They have a bunch of other colors for your brows, including some pretty redish shades for red-heads. You can buy this at Ulta, Target, most drugstores, NYX stores and their website, or online at Amazon. Here's a link to the product on the NYX website

What Holy Grail list would be complete without the Beauty Blender? It's like, just a sponge, right? WRONG. It's so much more than a sponge. Have you ever tried putting makeup on your face with a regular sponge? Don't do it, that's weird. But seriously, I don't know why or how this sponge is so great for putting on face makeup like foundation, concealer, or contour products but it just is. It's a bit expensive for a little sponge at $20 a pop, but if you clean it regularly and take good care not to let it get moldy or gross it will last a really long time. You can get these at pretty much every major makeup store or on Amazon or the Beauty Blender website

So there you have it! These are a few of my favorite products I regularly use up and will re-buy over and over. My list is ever changing though, so let me know what YOUR Holy Grail products are in the comments!

Disclaimer: I have not been paid or compensated in any way by these companies for this post, (not that I wouldn't- I just don't have that kind of life yet) and these are products that I personally like and that work for me. They might not work for you, and hey that's ok we're all different people!

Colourpop Yes Please Eyeshadow Palette Review and Swatches

Guys, I'm so excited I was able to get my paws on this Colourpop Yes Please eyeshadow palette. I feel like warm, hot tones are very in and I'm having a lot of fun spicing up my makeup looks with reds and oranges.

I don't have a ton of experience with Colourpop eyeshadows, as I'm more of their lippie girl, but for $16 and for all the hype, I had to try it out.

I swatched all the colors for you guys to take a look. I'm Asian (duh) with a fierce yellow undertone, so some of these colors will obviously look a little different on you.

First impressions are that the shadows are pretty pigmented, especially the glittery tones, but are a little loose. A little color on your makeup brushes will go a long way, and the darker colors may experience some fallout, so you might want to do your foundation after you've done your eyeshadow. I experienced the most fallout with the darkest shade, French Kiss.

The colors blend really well and I love how many different shades there are to play with. Here's a look using the palette and I added an ombré lip using a Coloupop Ultra Matte Lip in First Class and Wet n Wild's Liquid Catsuit in Coral Corruption.

This goes without saying but I'll say it anyway, I bought this on my own, and Colourpop probably doesn't even know who I am. My overall impression is that it's a great deal for $16, especially compared to some of the pricier cult fave palette like Urban Decay's Naked palettes (Which I'm also obsessed with.)

It's currently as of writing this sold out, but if you follow the Colourpop Instagram or Facebook they always let you know when a restock is coming.

Have you been able to get your mitts on this palette? What are your favorite colors so far? Tag me in your Instagram photos so I can SEEEEE.
